OK, last night I finally sat down to do some CD listening on my new ($349 from the Crutchfield outlet) 2900.
It would not play any RBCD's.
Played SACD, DVD & DVD-A just fine.
Made sure it was set to Stereo, and plain CD.
It would cycle through the loading sequence several times, and then display "No Play".
I tried about 10 different CD's, some old, a couple that have only been played once or twice.
Did I get a lemon?

a bit more info, not sure if it has anything to do with anything-
The progressive scan text is on on the front panel display, and I have searched through the menu and do not see somewhere to turn it off for CD playback-
Tried burning the update disc from the Denon site, but that would not load either.
Argh!

If it's not even recognizing a CD, yes, I'd say you have a defective unit.
If you have a "lens cleaner" disc it could be worth trying on the off-chance that some large (millimeter-sized) hunk of packaging material isn't sitting on the lens. Otherwise, I'd send it back.
Good Luck!

After seeing all the info on the issues you had getting everything connected, I'm just wondering if it is a connection or setting that is the issue.

Second that. I thought you said earlier that you were able to get 2 channel playing through the 5.1 analog connections and picking multi-channel inputs -- was that a CD or something else ?
I still think the CD out is either going to go over the digital link or separate analog outputs, not the 6 channel analog, but then again I do *not* have a 2900 (yet ).
My guess is that your player is working fine but you need to tell your receiver to look somewhere else for the signal.

This can't be a hookup issue, can it?
The player isn't even recognizing the disc.

TjB,
Mark brings up a good point.
You might 1) call Denon, 2) search the net to see if there is a similar issue and a fix and 3) call Crutchfield.
It would be a shame if you needed to return the thing for another. If so, I'd absolutely pound on Crutchfield for a "same price/even exchange" replacement. Aside from "parts missing", they do guarantee it will play. Would also be worthwhile to have Denon repair it.
Given the (usual) quality of the unit and the unbelieveable price you paid for it. It is worthwhile to try and figure out how to keep it or get it fixed/replaced. Worst case - keep it for the movies, DVD-A and SACD.

You know, I was rtrading through the posts and even started second guessing myself on the connections until Mark came to my rescue!

Oh yeah, this is a given. They are either going to make it right, or they are going to fix it, no doubt. That is the deal with the Outlet stuff.
I'll let everyone know what happens.
I also emailed the tech people at Denon, so I wonder what they are going to say.
Thanks!

Well, I tried about 10, new, old, whatever, and they were not recognized.
It plays DVD-A's, DVD's & SACD's, but will not recognize regular Redbook CD's.

In that case, I would agree with Mark and blame the CD laser/pickup. Buy a CD/DVD cleaner disk (the dry kind work fine) and follow the instructions to clean your player, then try again.

Lather. Rinse. Repeat.
BTW - I have heard that sometimes, Denon isn't the best at getting back to you. You might try calling their tech support folks. Probably a phone number somewhere on the Denon site.

I would be on the phone with Crutchfield. You have to test their guarantee. Let us know how it works out, just in case mine, from the S&D outlet goes poo poo, also.

I have been laid low since Tuesday with the flu that is ravaging C-Ville, and today is the first day that I feel like I can leave the house, so I am going over to Crutchfield, player in hand and see what happens.
The only other things I have had to return from the Outlet, in all the years I have been buying there were a Polk sub and an old JVC reciever, and they replaced both of them with new units on the spot. But I am worried that they will not have any more of the 2900 in house, and it will have to be sent back to Dennon. I'm honestly not too concerned. Even if it has to be sent back, I'm sure it will be fixed.
We will see in a couple of hours.
At least I have the Yamaha 750 for DVD and CD ect. while the Dennon is being repaired.
And, BTW, that new Yamaha really is pretty damn nice as well. I know it is hard to compare units from even just a couple of years ago, but it is a quantum leap from my old Yamaha CDC-765. Terrific depth, great bass, very nice picture. As often as I see/hear the complaint that Yamaha stuff is "bright" I do not hear it, especially on this player. In the limited time I have had to play with it since I got it set up, I would describe it as being somewhat "warm". Seems a bit slow to load discs, but I'm sure I will get used to that.
And, the new Yamaha 2500 is fantastic. Great, great unit. Sounds beautiful. Takes the Axioms to even newer heights than my old RX-V2092.
Once I get better, and get the 2900 up and running I will post some thoughts on all. As well as some pictures.

How convenient is THAT? I'd love to be that close to those folks. Great opportunity to find some real deals and handle the equipment rather than rely on long distance communications / shipping.

I remember running down to Crutchfield when I lived in C-Ville.
At the fraternity, we really took advantage of their 30 day money back, no stocking fee return policy.
We'd need an extra cd player or another set of speakers for a party where one of the brothers was playing DJ, and yup, we'd run down to good ol' Crutchfield, fraternity credit card in hand. Next week, we'd return it, same as cash...
Some of the stuff we eventually kept, though, because running there and back became a hassle.
I miss C-Ville, though.
Sorry to thread jack. We're back now.

Well, I'm back, and VERY Happy!
They had three more to choose from in the Outlet, and we took a couple and hooked them up to make sure that they were working fine.
So I now have my 2900 hooked up and running. Playing everything I have thrown at it so far.
Problem solved.
Whooo!!!
BTW, that leaves two more there (the price on the others was $399.00, but they did not quibble on the $50 diff trading mine out) so if anyone wants to call and see if they will ship out of the Outlet, give 'em a shot! Just make sure you don't get the one that will not play RBCD's!
Thanks again to all for your input!

I'm so glad it all worked out for you in the end. Though it took a little time, you got a great piece of machinery for a stupendous price.

Yeah, it is just one of the nice things about living in
C-Ville. I have used the Outlet to built two systems for myself, one for my sister, one for my brother, and a couple for friends. But when I got the Axioms, and started looking at what to do next, I realized that I may have finally outgrown them for my own needs. With the exception of this wonderful 2900, I do not see myself going across the street from Yamaha to Denon, and they have stopped carrying Yamaha altogether. And after living with the Axioms for a month or so now, I know I'll never go back to Polks, as much as I loved my old ones for so many years.
But then again, they do sell some very nice TV's!
SLAP, SLAP, SLAP!
Oh, I can't even go THERE! My Toshiba 16X9 direct view is only 6 months old, and it is the perfect size for our viewing area.

Thanks Jack!
Have I mentioned lately how much I really and truely enjoy being a part of these forums? You guys are great!
Not to get too touchy - feely, but I'm already kind of weepy about my 2900! ;-)
Two months ago I had never even heard of Axiom, and now, because of these pages I have the system of my dreams!
So Ray, tell me a little more about that Remote you like so much!

TjB,
I am so pleased to hear about your Crutchfield experience. Every time I hear their name, it involves this kind of tale of Customer Service. That's great!
BTW - I sent you a PM relative to the remote rather than drag everybody through it. Most folks are big fans but one or two of the guys (I won't mention your name Ken ) are suffering from a bad case of "remote envy".
Enjoy your 2900 my friend. Boy, I hope somebody here can take advantage of the $399 specials Crutchfield has.

Apparently the $399.99 price is a cash and carry deal. Just to be sure I have emailed Crutchfield about the price descrepancies, b&m vs online. I think $195 is like steep for shipping and handling. Man, I could get MX-700 for the price difference. My living room could be a Shrine to Ray. Your right, Ray, we do suffer from remote envy. I would be the first to admit that.
