The M50 are still at the top of the list, but there are some other "sub-issues" that need to be attended to.

It all has to do with my horrible room acoustics, the soundstage has shrunk from an, "outside the speakers by a good bunch", to a seemingly "wide center channel". It's really nasty. I've even been investigating going the bi-amping route by trying to integrate a small sub with my M3s trying to get better control of the lower frequencies, but the cost quickly runs into the WAF when trying to do this on both front speakers-two quality musical subs with comprehensive x-overs within the price of a set of M50s is an impossible goal. And then, even with the subs taking over the low freqs from the M3s, the M3s still may be too small for the room. So, while it has been fun looking at small subs and trying to make the concept work, I may just have to go back to plain ol' towers and try to work out something with the room.

Then there's the problem of trying to fit ten feet of entertainment equipment into twelve feet of wall space and still have enough room for the speakers to breath...

Picking the speakers is easy, finding just where to put them (and us)is the trick.

Ain't it the truth. Have you tried playing with the toe-in, to see if you can achieve a wider soundstage?

Yup, sure have; toe-in toe-out, upside down and inside out. Every way but in the kitchen sink. It's the "Bad Room" Complex. Reflective stuff a batch on one side and nothing at all on the other. The left speaker aims at the side of a fireplace while the right one kinda shoots into space.

That, and I'm sorta tied into an entertainment center kind of set-up where I've got lots of stuff in a small amount of wall space, so it's difficult to allow the speakers enough room to do their jobs properly. Extending them out into the room a few inches may help, but with four grandkids ages four thru ten living with us, I sure don't want my precious speakers to be too vulnerable! lol

OOOOHHH! Exactly like mine. Got two large posters under glass on the left wall for a real nice first reflection, and an opening into a dining area on the right.

Yup! Ditto that, too. I actually don't have a choice of speaker placement. There's one small opening for each, and one small opening only. So, you just make do with what you got. When I hit the lottery (oh sure ) and move into the mansion, I'll have a dedicated room for all this stuff.

Remember this is why the Chinese invented movable screens (dividers) all those years ago. Somewhat reflective surface broken up by ornamental diffusers, and the ability to angle the panels so the reflections don't go in exactly the same direction as the screen is oriented in your room.

How about posting a floor plan, so our team of experts can make rude comments about your room, I mean offer suggestions re: WAF-positive alternatives ?

Know what you mean about screens n' things. Something I was thinking about as well. Anyway did somemore testing by putting the M3s where the M50 would go but extended them out a couple inches into the room, and HEY!, it kinda worked!! It's not exactly as good as in the old house, but I got enough imaging back to see enough improvment to be encouraging enough to do, as Jack mentioned above, "to make do" and "I DID IT!! I pulled the trigger on my Brand New M50s!!!

Yeah! the improvement in imaging isn't up to 100% but with some acoustic treatments made over time, I think I'll have it figured out to an acceptable level.

Anyway, they're on their way, so, gotta go now, it's my Wifes' birthday today, and I'm taking her out to lunch.

Thanks for your inputs, guys, much appreciated.
Rich.
