I don't think you can go wrong with either M2 or M3. If you are definitely going with a sub I would lean towards M2s unless your room is big enough to need the M3s.
The M2/VP100 choice for center depends on a few things :
- distance from speakers to listening position -- M2 is a fantastic center at 8 feet, 90% as good as VP100 at 10 feet, go with the VP100 past that (very roughly)
- magnetic shielding if your TV is CRT (I forget) -- VP100 has more shielding than M2/M3. Sitting an M2 inverted on a CRT TV gives a tiny bit of fringing -- lying down, normal position or beside the TV gives you scary bad fringing

NC,what you propose(M2s, QS4s, Dayton sub, 1014)should be a fine system within your budget. If there's any weakness in the Dayton it's down below 30Hz and there should be no problem with having a nice blend with the M2s in the 80-100Hz area.
