ya the samples seem to be loops. however, it sounds like crap. then when you hear the live songs, you realize the entire live song sounds like that, and it's crap.

The only one that really sounded to me to have a lot of potential was "Beside You In Time." Funnily enough, the title track struck me as the most annoying.
BUT. We still haven't heard these songs properly. Loops of the choruses and lo-fi live versions of whole songs definitely give an impression, but I'm trying hard not to make judgments on that basis.
That said, we do know exactly what The Hand That Feeds, Getting Smaller, and The Line Begins To Blur sound like, and those don't excite.
We'll know soon enough. I'll be the whole album will be out there before long, since these samples got out. Hey, it's happened with every Radiohead album since Kid A!

I'm having second thoughts about going to the listening party in Philly after reading the writeup on the most recent one. It sounds like people were waiting in line for over two hours, and still didn't even get in until the event was 1/2 over. I'm going to check out other writeups throughout the week and determine if it is worth it. If I decide it is not, I'll wait til May 3rd to hear everything but THTF. From what I hear of these loops and low quality recordings, I don't want to hear them first anyway.

What the heck is a listening party that you have to line up two hours for ? I figured it was a few friends over for a few beers or something...

If one of your friends have a copy of an album that hasn't been released yet, I'll provide the beer!
This kind of 'listening party' is really just a record company promotional event. You get to buy expensive drinks and mill around a bar while the album plays over semi-crappy speakers so no one hears things clearly. At least in my experience of these events, anyway...

In reply to:
listening party
when i was a kid, our listening parties were a bunch of kids drinkin kool-aid, and spinning records backwards to try and hear the 'secret messages'. we used to get all scared when we would spin the 'dark' or 'devilish' ones. we thought satan himself was gonna jump right off the turntable.
we never really heard much of anything, but i do remember a few.
'another one bites the dust' kinda sound like 'decide to smoke marijuana' when played backyards.
the Zep 4 album had ALL kinda stuff on it. or we just had a vivid imagination.
my buddy has some beatles albums that had a bunch of cool backyards stuff on them.
one of my dads steppenwolf albums had some weird stuff too.
and i remember being sooo disappointed that we didnt hear nothing on the early motley crue albums we did(too fast for love & shout at the devil). i was just positive we would find a link with hell on those albums.. but, alas, we did not. and the world is now safe..
