Well guys, in a few weeks I will no longer have to worry about playing my Axioms too loudly because I bought a house. I can't wait to run all my wires and get everything setup, but I do have one placement question. Should I wall mount the surrounds or ceiling mount them. Here's the setup.

Ceiling mounting might be a bit tricky because my QS8's do not have the mounting nut for the FMB. On the other hand, I think that I would get better surround with option #2. So what do you guys think?

That back wall is pretty wide, I'd like to hear other people's opinions on mounting them on the back wall instead of the side wall.

Then again you did ask #1 or #2?

I think location #1 looks bad on paper but I think it would work fine once it was set up correctly.

Location #2 would certainly sound fine but I think the speaker location might be a difficult sell to your significant other.

With a room that wide I'd try them on stepladders against the back wall and see how they sound.

i have a 26x28 room, and the QS8's are flush mounted on the 26ft wall. my 'prime' listening position is directly inbetween them. so, this puts my QS8's 13-14ft to either side of my listening position. they sound perfectly fine. if your concern is if the QS8's have enough sound and detail, then you should have no worries there.. now, i cant say how much, if any, sound deflection you will get with the speaker being so close to the corner, but i assume there will be some.

if the ceiling mount proves to be a prob, i think they will be just fine in location #1, flush wall monuted.

My right QS8 is mounted 13ft. from the sweet spot and my left QS8 is mounted 10.5ft. from the sweet spot all about 4-5ft. above my listening posistion, and they sound GREAT.
I think you'll be just fine with option #1, or #2.
Also, have you thought about stands on either side of the sofa?

Jason, congratulations on the new house. Since the listening position will be almost up against the back wall, it would be desirable to place the surrounds so that you get a bit of back effect from them. Either of the positions shown should be okay, but as Wayne suggested, my thought would be to mount them about 6-7' up on the back wall and widely separated, about 1' from the left side wall and a similar amount of separation for the right surround.

Thanks to everyone for the advice. It appears that I will just need to experiment with both side and rear placement before I nail them to the walls. I'll be sure to let you guys know the results and I'll finally get around to taking some pictures. Thanks again.
