I am trying to decide between the two receivers. OneCall finally got a few of the 630s back in. Is the 635 worth the extra $100? It seems like the biggest sell of the 635 is the new room EQ. Has anyone used this? It's trial and error for me as I haven't set up a HT before and perhaps the EQ would come in handy. Then again, I have heard some of you mention you don't really trust them. I should add I haven't bought my speakers quite yet I was just wondering if I should jump on the 630s before they disappear. Any thoughts?

I believe the 630 is going for like $400 or so and the 635 is like $650. In that price range you might want to take a look at the Denon 1905, 2105, the onkyo 602, 702. and the marantz 5500. You can get a refurbished Marantz 7300 from an authrized dealer for $600. Just tossing those up. Really depends if you care for the DSP and stuff.

Denon 3805 is on authorized sites at 699 refurbished.

It seems like JohnK knows some things about the 635 EQ, maybe he'll chime in soon. I dont think you could go wrong with either.

Get the 630................................................and then make sure it has the newest firmware on it and you will be fine and dandy.

TNT, my thoughts(not based on personal experience with the 635)are that the new equalization system which Dr. Toole's group at Harmon has developed is promising enough to justify picking the 635 over the 630. Room equalization systems are a developing technology which are far from perfect(and may never be that)but significant improvement has been reported in some setups. The two most technologically advanced systems are apparently the new HK and the MultEq developed by Odyssey which Denon includes in its flagship 5805. The HK system places special emphasis on equalizing the lowest bass frequencies(including the sub output)which most others don't affect and which are most in need of equalization. Some reports on other boards by users describe significant improvement in bass smoothness. Your decision, of course.

I still stay stick with the 630. JohnK as he always does makes some good points but I still have yet to hear a built in eq solution that I would use..........and I have heard most of them.

Boy that 5805 is a beast. Is it true it has its own gravitational pull? It looks too heavy to be stolen.

Specs say 97 lbs.
