I am looking at picking up an Epic 50/350 as my budget only allows me to purchase this model. Would I be ok purchasing a Denon 2805 receiver for this Epic model? Can i get away w/o an amp, just the receiver alone? I live in an apartment, so my viewing area is not too large, so I imagine this setup will be more than adequate.

Also, and good sites to scout on purchasing that Denon?

Thanks in advance, and im glad to join you guys, lots of smart people here w/ good advice

Eric

Thank you for your response.... is maybe the 2805 a lil much for these M50's? could i get away with the 2105? If it means im better off for the future, i'll go with the 2805, id rather spend a lil more now and be set down the road.

I have the 2805 with M60's EP350 VP150 and 4 Qs8's in a very large room with no problems. I got my 2805 at an American Electronics local store on a special sale day for like 20% off retail, not bad. Also, the Denon 985, if you find that one, is the same thing as the 2805.

Also, not sure if your planning on ordering from the Axiom Factory Outlet or not, but that will save you an additional 10%, and there is nothing technically wrong with them. Most of us took that route.

good luck

Here is the url for Denon's feature comparison chart.
You'll have to copy and paste because I haven't got all the usage features of this forum down yet.

2105's are available on ubid as well.

Eric, you would be fine with the 2105 or the 1905. The 2805 is not required.

Look here for a comparison of the features.

They all have comparable/ample power and the difference is in the features/price. To answer your next question - No, the EQ isn't required and has not proven to be the most accurate feature available.

Happy shopping.

Wow, thanks! You guys are great, after looking it over, i think ill go w/ the 2105. Looks like it'll save me a few bucks, plus i dont need all those inputs really, and 90w from 100w, prob won't be a big deal i imagine..... Im sure it'll all be better than the Sony i have now, w/ its itty bitty satalites, its about 4 yrs old now

Again, many thanks!

Eric

Hi Eric, Welcome!!

Have a question for You! First of all, I own a pair of M50s and couldn't be happier, but...When you say you want to get M50s, is it only because of the cost? Or, I whould hope, it's because they offer the type of sound you are looking for? If you haven't looked closely at the posts on this forum, for the last few weeks, there have been tens of threads with dozens of discussions on the relative merits of the various Axiom speakers. If you aren't familiar(other than the price sheet)with the different speaker types, it may be worth a few minutes of your time in reviewing them.(Hey, could even be fun!)

My M50s are my "speakers for life" but just because they suit Me...

Anyway, welcome to our forum and Happy Hunting!!(shhhh-go for the M50s!!)

Rich.

Cost is actually a pretty good reason for buying M50s too

Seriously, they are the first of the "able to handle a larger room, play loudly and sound great all at the same time" towers and even if you really want "M60 sound" the M50s are very close for comfortably less money. The fact that quite a few people *prefer* the M3/M40/M50 sound is a bonus but is not the only reason for getting 50s.

The M40s are better than bookshelves in a bunch of ways and would still be my first choice for a pure music speaker but their ability to handle a large room is not much different from M3s -- that's the only reason for calling the M50s the first of the "big room speakers".

Look at rhe Denon 985, it is exactly the same as the 2805 but about $100.00 cheaper.
They are the same unit, just tagged different for different stores.

Thanks for the great info and help guys! I did some pricing at the Factory Outlet, and i will actually have enough dough to get M60s QS8s, and the 150 center channel w/ 350 sub

Thanks for pointing out the difference in the sound, i didn't know there was a big difference in the sound. I will definately peruse the forums for those posts.

I said,i think, in my first post that i currently live in an apartment, and maybe that setup i listed above will be a bit much for its size (poor poor neighbors! muahhaha), but when i purchase a house in the near future i'd like to be confident that my setup will be able to handle the room. I don't have much faith in my current sony HDT-somethin =( It was only about 300 bucks and my first all in one purchase... Im ready to graduate

[EDIT: i forgot maybe to mention that this system will be for movies almost entirely, id say 99% of the time. Not sure if that info is useful]

Eric

eric, i've got the exact same speakers you're ordering, and trust me you're gonna love 'em! especially the qs-8s, they will blow your friggin mind!! and dont worry about it not being able to fill a room when you get a house later. mine's in a 2500 ft3 room open to two other rooms, running off a 3805, and the speakers have nooooooo problem filling the room. hell, if i turn it good and loud, i can hear them at the end of the street!

Watched and listened to DVD "Ray" last night with friends. My buddy Joe who has seen the movie multiple times could not believe how great it sounds on my new system. I've only had my 60s, 150, 8s and EP500 3 days and could not be happier. I have a 3805 and am still tinkering with effects for movies, music and tv. I know you won't be disappointed with Axiom.
