I wanted to pass on a great DVD for those that have kids that are not talking yet. I have a 2 1/2 year old that is not saying a word. Over the last 6 mo, we were told that he was Autistic then we were told that he is not Autistic, ect....ect.... We are in a lot of therapy to catch him up yet the one item that has made a HUGE differance to us all is a DVD called "Signing Times". This DVD teaches the child everyday signs like, "more, milk, open, book, ect". My son has picked up more in two weeks then he has learned in 3 mo in therapy. This DVD is not just for those kids that are delayed but for the younger children that have not moved into speach yet (1-1 1/2 year olds).
Anyway, wanted to pass on a great tool for anyone interested.

If it makes you feel any better, my cousin was the same way when she was 2 or 3. As she got older she turned into a little chatterbox. I think she is about 12 now.

Good luck with your son. We used "baby signs" with our (now 5 year old) daughter and are now teaching our year old twin boys. It's amazing how they catch on to the concept of signing so fast. Our daughter still remembers almost all of the signs she learned and is helping teach them to her brothers.

Good to hear about the progress. Sometimes those things are tough to diagnose. Keep it up, I never really spoke until I was about 4. My parents spoke several dialogs of Filipino and English, so it was hard for me to pick up any consistency.
I have a lot of friends who've done the sign language w/ success. Much easier for kids to pick via vocal language. Helps them to be less frustrated too. We tried w/ our first but we weren't consistent.
We'll try again since we just had our son yesterday. Yes, I'm typing from the hospital room...

I didn't really speak until I was preschool age, myself. My mom still tells me how I used to push people to get their attention. This behavior didn't go over too well on the playground....
She also tells me I became instant friends with a girl who pushed me back. (I suppose that's why I married my wife. She's a pusher, all right. )
