I was wondering what sort of a subwoofer you run with your M80s? I have a set of M80s somewhere between Axiom and my house, and need a new subwoofer anyhow.
I suspect that the M80s would have good bass just by themselves.
Your comments would be appreciated.

Yup, go with the sub, no question there!
Cross it at 60hz and keep the vocals in the mains where they belong, not sneaking into the sub.

Bernard,
I have a Hsu Stf-3.The crossover is set at 60hz and sounds great with the M80s.The 80s do have good low end on their own but once you get used to listening with a sub it's hard not to.

Lots of good threads here. Do a search for subwoofers. I have to keep a leash on my 500 or it will knock the house off the foundations. I preferred the matching look, so all axiom.

Hey Dennis (tharkun), I saw some of your pictures, WOW!!! great system!! Also, I know that a sub is necessary for HT, but I only care for 2 ch. music.
I am not quite sure what the difference is between subs regarding down firing or up firing.

And that's exactly what we're saying. It's REALLY nice to have a sub with 2 channel music. A properly calibrated sub adds quite a lot. The only issues I've seen with a sub and 2 channel music were at Dennis's house, where the EP600s just went TOO low and were playing the subsonics on a poorly mastered disc.

Thyname,
I think you have the same setup as i do. One thing i think most people including myself forget is to treat the listening room (room acoustic). I have just finished my listening room by placing acoustic foam from foambymail.com to treat first reflection point on side wall , back wall and bass trap to all four corners of the room.
I must say that bass is much much better , tighter on M60 and i'm happy. I originally thought M60 does not do any good on bass, but I was wrong....
Anyway, room acoustic is a must.

I have heard the SW150 and it's a great little sub. Bass is nice and controlled. The new SW series are a big improvement over the old powercube series; which I found to be on the boomy side and very average.
If Wharfedale is indeed cheaper where you live as you stated; then I would take advantage of that and get as much sub as possible by considering the bigger subs in the SW series....the 12" SW300 and the 15" SW380.
