I just got my M60's and wanted to make sure my reciever will be ok till I get a new one. It originally was a HTIB but before HTIBs were really out so it's a package of parts thrown together. I don't know much about ohms and what not so when I saw it showing 6 and the speakers are 8 I started to wonder...hence I bring to the experts!

See the link (over 200k) for a scan of the specs: http://pages.videotron.ca/chaseme/rec.jpg

Oh and yes I'm getting a new reciever eventually!

I couldn't read the printing on that sheet.

In general, if your receiver/ amplifier is rated at 6 ohms and you are using 8 ohm speakers, there isn't any problem.

What is the power output of your receiver?

The only thing that I would be careful about is turning up the volume, too loud, on a receiver that is power limited. That may cause clipping/ distortion that could possibly damage/ destroy the tweeters in your new M60s.

But, other than that, ENJOY YOUR NEW SPEAKERS.

Don't worry about the difference between 6 and 8 ohms.

It's rated at 100W per channel but it's Panasonic so I doubt it pulls that off. I'm suprised you can't see the text as it's fairly large scan. Chances are your browser shrunk it to fit it into one window. Thanks for the info though!

Mouse over it and a bunch of icons will pop up... there's one on the bottom that looks like the MS image icon with 4 diagonal arrows... click that to see it full size.

JM, you can rely on that Panasonic(as well as others)power rating to be accurate. Since it's rated at 6 ohms, the 8 ohm rating would probably be in the area of 80 watts. If it's still in good condition this should be plenty for your M60s until you'd get a receiver with updated features.

James and Bren: the browser was the problem and scrolling the mouse over the text and clicking solved the problem. Thanks!

Some days I think that I know a little something about computers. Other days I wonder if I am just a little dangerous with a computer.

LOL!!!

23 lbs = 35-45 wpc @ 8 ohms, if that.. go by weight, not by specs. They obviously lied on the specs to get that rating, and if they were lying to make their product look better and still posted 0.9% distortion, I can just imagine what the actual spec is.

It'll probably sound alright at lower volumes, but don't try blasting anything in surround until you get a nice hefty receiver.

I couldn't see a model number on the spec.

If you can find a model number there are probably some reviews on line that will give you more info, but it looks like your receiver should be fine. Here is one collection of reviews... the 100W/chan Panasonic receiver rated at 0.9% THD (not necessarily yours, of course) kicked out about 70W in the review but with decently low distortion.

Link

Your receiver should be just fine. You might find yourself enjoying cranking up the volume more with the new speakers... if so keep an eye on the temperature and make sure it doesn't get too hot. You don't want to drive it into clipping and you don't want to drive it into thermal shutdown... both have a chance of damaging your new speakers. Both are also pretty obvious so don't worry

Thanks for the info guys! The model is SA-HT290. I'm looking for reviews online now, good point don't know why I didn't think of that.

I power my m60s with a Kenwood VR-507. It's probably comparable to your reciever and I think it sounds great. Granted, I'm going to upgrade relatively soon, but I've been using this combo for over a year with no problems. In fact I thought I would upgrade very soon after the speaker purchase, but I've been pushing that date back because I think the system sounds great.

Edit: I don't "crank it" all that often, but it can play at uncomfortably loud levels in my room without clipping or shutting down.
