I bought a pair of M22ti's a couple of months ago, and the VP150 just last week. I'm now in the market for a sub. After some research I've come up with the following subs that seem good for my needs:

Athena Audition AS-P400
Hsu VTF-2
SVS 25-31PCi

I'll be having to make this purchase without hearing any of these subs in person, so I'm trying to find someone who has, to give me an honest opinion.

I'm leaning towards the Athena as it's available for only $320, as opposed to the Hsu at $450 and the SVS at $549. Are the Hsu and SVS really worth that much more money?

Here's my set up...

Onkyo Integra TX-SV919THX (RECEIVER)
Axiom M22ti (MAINS)
Axiom VP150 (CENTER)
Polk Audio LS f/x (SURROUND)
Yamaha YST-SW60 (SUB) <-------------- this is being replaced by the new purchase

I'm in a fairly large room (approx. 15x27x9) that is open to a stairway and kitchen. Though in the future this setup may very likely be put into a smaller, enclosed room. I use this set up about 50/50 music/HT, though I'm more concerned with the new sub being clear, accurate, and tight for music, than I am about pushing my furniture around the room with HT.

Anything you can tell me which might make this decision easier would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Craig Rogers

If you don't care about looks, get the SVS. SVS also makes a cubic sub now if you're worried about an ugly water heater looking cylinder in your living room. SVS makes better products than Athena and HSU (for the price).

If you want to stick with Axiom, get the EP175 or 350. People ommit their subs too quickly. They're really, really good subs, and they look good, too. Their performance ratings are little underestimated. When you hear them, they sound great. The EP350 uses the same kind of amp as SVS, that is, a BASH amp. It's canadian, too!
