I am not getting the full surround sound on my QS-8's I think they are blending to well with my M60's. I sit about 12 feet away from the 60's and the QS'8s are a foot back from my listening position mounted about 5-6 feet higher than my ear on Full Metal Brackets. When I balance out all of my speakers I don't hear anything in the rears. Sound is coming out, but it is blending with the fronts.

A couple of questions:

1. The tweeters of the 60 are ear level. Should I elevate the speakers?
2. Do I have the surrounds to high on the wall?
3. Should I angle them down more using the full metal bracket?

If I turn up the surrounds they are louder than the fronts when listening at normal levels in 5 channel stereo.

Thanks for any help.

Are you talking about using them for music listening or HT. The post is in the HT area, but you mention 5 channel stereo?

What receiver do you have? If it is a Denon, the levels will be set differently depending if your in direct mode, 5 channel stereo, dolby digital, etc... If you hit the circle button on the remote, it will cycle through each speaker and show what the auto setup has for each speaker.

of course that is if you have a Denon

For HT, you will not always hear stuff out of the surrounds, but when you do, you will know they are there. On my Denon in 5 or 7 channel stereo mode, things sound great. When listening to a DVD Music disc in 6.1, it is awesome.

Sorry I can't be much more help.

I had the same concerns when my QS8s arrived but what I realized after a while was that I was getting surround effects, they just didn't seem to be coming from the QS8s.

I get sounds at all angles behind and beside me, but if you asked me whether the QS8s were doing anything...

Just a thought.

It is a Yamaha RX-V2500. It is mostly used for HT.

I am not hearing anything behind me or on the sides. It sounds like it is all up front.

have you tried sending the test tones (pink) noise to the speakers? I'm sure the Yammy has that ability. You should definately be hearing surround affects off/on during good movies. I assume your receiver is in Dolby Digital or DTS modes? Sorry if these are stupid questions

Same here.
Just shows how good these speakers really are, IMO!

Hey, the only stupid question is the one that's NOT asked! Right!!

Right!!!

Anyway, we know what you mean by that.

There is a term though for what happens when a rear center speaker in 6.1 is too close to the middle and it gives a "false front" effect, the sound appears to be coming from the front instead of the back. I wonder if that's what the problem actually is?

Maybe the rears are too much in line wuth the fronts and might just require moving a bit more to the side?

Magre,
I've got that 2500 as well.
A quick one- Did you use the Auto EQ Gig?
And, have you ballanced out all of the speakers manually with a SPL meter?

I have tried the auto eq and I have left it off. I have also manually configured the speakers using Avia and SPL meter.

Last night I moved my front's closer together. I think this did the trick. I am losing a little from the fronts by doing this though. My room is narrow so this is what I had to do. I am a little inside the 101 inch screen with the speakers.

If you don't want to move the mains in, I would say it's worth toying around with the FMB's a bit. You might be able to get what you'll looking for by angling the QS8's differently.
