I see alot of discussion about everything under the sun but not as much about sports. Any sports fans here?

I am a huge NFL, NBA, and college football fan. I like college basketball and MLB, but not quite as much as my big 3. I have seen alot of sports in person but two big ones still remain for me. An NFL game and a World Cup Soccer game. First one will hopefully happen soon but I don't know about the latter one. I hear World Cup games are truly an experience.

i am a big sports fan. mainly football, but i have to have something to fill the time during the off-season. NASCAR fills the void during the summer, cause i dont watch NBA til the playoffs(GO SPURS), and i honeslty cant stand baseball. its OK if you are at the park, but i just CANT watch it on TV. so, i am just not a big fan of it.

we go to see at least 1 or 2 cowboys games a year. and i go to a high school footall game pretty much every friday night during the fall. and if my hometown team is out of town, i will find some other local game to go to. i thinik, at that level, thats as pure and raw of football you will see. by the time they get to college and pros, most players have 'agendas'. in high school, they play cause they want to.. i like that..

i dont know if i would consider fishing a sport, but i do lots of that. and we shoot blackbirds off the top of fence posts with pellet guns at my friends house at the lake. i know that might seem cruel, but texas black birds are the ugliest most evil bird around. plus, they run off the dove, and them is good eats.. so we figure we are just doing ourselves a favor. oh, and i like to hunt, dove mainly. i used to hunt deer a lot, but my wife dont like venison, so its hard for me to finish one up.. so, i just get meat from friends when i want some.

i also play disc golf. yes, its exactly how it sounds. just like regular golf, but you use frisbees.. and instead of holes in the ground, you have baskets above ground that the discs have to land in. its easy and cheap, and tons of fun. you should try it someday.

I'm watching a Cleveland Indians game right now (they're up 3-0 over the Rockies in the top of the third inning). Ya GOTTA be a real sports fan to watch Cleveland sports. HUGE Browns fan, and Ohio State Buckeyes football fan.

Much to my own surprise, I became a hockey fan about 8 years ago. Being born in Detroit, I became a Red Wings fan.

I'm a fair weather basketball fan, and when they finally put a team around LeBron James, I'll be watching the Cavaliers more than I did this season.

I enjoy watching men's and women's soccer (football to the rest of the world) when either US team is involved in International play. I don't follow any of the leagues.

And, I actually enjoy watching the America's cup sailing races. The last competition was stunning in Hi Def

Huge football (Giants)and baseball(Mets) fan nba (Nets) is tough to watch if a team i like is not doing good or in the playoffs. Mixed martial arts (ufc, pride etc) Boxing. play golf a little watch it even less. i too wonder why there is not more sports discussions around here.

Love hockey (but I'm Canadian so that's kinda obvious), baseball of almost any variety (the Little League World Series is an event every baseball fan should see once), college hoops (can't stand the NBA, terrible rules/officiating) and most forms of auto racing. And most other sports too, but those are the main ones.

The Jays have been a great team to watch so far this year, but the hitting has gone down hill recently, and the pitching is more sketch than before. Hopefully they pull out of it and it leat make it a race this year. At least least the Yankees are losing too.

I like Hockey and not much else. We all know what is up with hockey so, there isn't much to talk about right now.

Soccer only!! I watch international competitions of course (World Cup and Euro) as well as English, Italian and Spanish national leagues. I have been in USA more than 3 years now, but I cannot seem to get used to American Football or, even worse, baseball. Sorry!!

Wow that was quick and to the point. I too am a hockey fanatic and really miss the sport. Baseball is the sport I grew up on yet hockey has really grown on me(before the lockout) the last 7 or 8 years. It also helps that my team is winning [*cough* redwings *cough*] all these years. Seriously it doesn't matter who's playing I enjoy watching a hockey game anytime.

OT: How about the wonderful world of curling as an alternative to the lockout?

NFL (Rams), NHL (Flyers) ...Congrats to the Phantoms!! and Patrick Sharp, a good ol' Thunder Bay kid!!...

Don't ask me why those teams.... I've been cheering for both since I was a kid. Maybe it was the intimidating names... Fearsome Foursome of the L.A. Rams (now ST.Louis)and The Broadstreet Bullies of Philly really cranked me up when I was 6 years old!

I'll play just about any sport as long as there's a cold one at the end.....

Cool. Good to see I am not alone here. With the NBA seemingly headed for lockout land, the NHL needs to get its act together on this opportunity if the NBA lock out is for an extended period of time.

I was glad to see him leave my niners. Thanks for taking him off my hands. They should leave him on the bench for a year like Chucky did to "give me the damn ball" Keyshawn Johnson.

I knew TO would implode, it comes with the territory. I just hoped it wouldn't be this soon.

The Niners have a very storied franchise albeit seeing some tough times as of late. I loved watching them in the Montana-Young days.

A funny story about Steve Young. I have watched Young play ever since I was a little kid and he played at BYU back in his collegiate days. Back in '83 I attended the USU-BYU game in Logan. I was 10 years old at the time. BYU actually had a rare loss to USU in that game on a rain soaked saturday afternoon. It was my dream to meet the guy as he was one of my boyhood heroes. So after the game, I ran onto that field of literal giants hoping to meet the guy. I looked all over the field trying to find him but never did. But I have followed his career closely ever since. Fast forward 20 years. I finally met him at a function a couple of years ago. We chatted for a few minutes and I told him that exact same story. He laughed and you could see how competitive he is when he also noted how annoyed he is even now after 20 years that they lost that game . A really nice and approachable guy.

Hopefully Alex Smith can help the Niners back to their winning ways.

I'm a big UCLA fan. Especially football. Especially when they beat over-rated teams from the east, south, and midwest.
I was a Laker fan since 1980 or so, but didn't watch a single game this year. I am severely disappointed that a stable, successful organization like the Lakers would cave to the selfish demands of a single player. That is what rinky-dink teams do. Apparently, Buss has seen his error and is trying to rectify it by bringing back Phil Jackson. Now he just needs to finish the job by trading Kobe.

What an interesting thread. I never even heard of Disc Golf. Is this something new or has it been around awhile? Is this just a Texas thing? I mean I have heard you Texans like to do things in a BIG way but... ;>)
I like Tennis, Soccer, Baseball (Braves and Yankees) and Football (UGA & Jets) in that order. More into college football than pro. I play tennis so I like that the best.

i am not real sure how long disc golf has been around.. i imagine it has been an underground thing for a long time, but has just really started to catch on here in the last 5-7 years or so. its obviously a non-traditional sport, so most people are less likely to know about it, much less even try it.. but, its a cool sport cause you dont have to be especially athletic to be good at it. and, you get good exercise just walking the course. and its not just a texas thing, they play it EVERYWHERE!!

depending on where you live, there could be several courses in your area, and you are just not aware of them. you should check out the sport, its highly entertaining.

I am a huge sports fan. MLB (Cubs), NFL (Colts), NBA (Pacers), College BB (IU), and college football (Notre Dame). I also love high school sports. I try not to miss any football, basketball (mens and womens), or baseball games involving my local high school.

Most of all I enjo watching my 12 year old daughter play. She plays basketball, soccer, softball and volleyball. Not to brag, but she is one heck of a basketball player. Her 4th grade AAU team were National Champions and her 5th and 6th grade teams lost 1 game in 2 years. She was asked by the varisty coach at our high school to play with the 7th grade AAU team, her being a 6th grader. She is away at basketball camp right now, so I miss her. She gets home tomorrow and then we head for camp at the University of Tennessee. I guess you can tell I am very proud of her.

I enjoy playing basketball, volleyball, softball and golf. I play as much as I can, but with my daughter I do not have a lot of extra time. ]

Heck, I barely have enough time to enjoy my HT.

TNTguy - I am a big soccer fan and you are correct that attending a World Cup match is truly an event not to be missed. I was able to attend a match in 1994 World Cup between Germany and South Korea that was held in Dallas. The atmosphere was electric! I also attended a match two years ago between the U.S. and Mexico in Houston. While the match was a friendly, there were still 69,000 screaming fans in Reliant Stadium. If you get a chance to see any international soccer match, I strongly recommend it.

I have heard many fans describe a World Cup match as "electric." I really need to get to one of these some day. If the opportunity arises, I will defintely go.

Funny how I used to think that Nascar wasn't that popular. IIRC, Nascar either ranks first or second behind the NFL in attendance here in the US. I guess it really is popular.

I keep wondering why Phil would come back to the Lakers after what happened previously. To date Jeannie Buss again maybe?

I am also a big Utah Jazz fan. It's been a tough fall from the consistent winning ways of Stockton and Malone to what the Jazz have going now. Hopefully the Jazz can get someone who can help them at #6 in the draft. One thing that is unfortunate is that because of the impending lockout at the end of the month, there will probably be no Rocky Mountain Revue here this summer. The Revue is a gathering in July of about 10 NBA teams composed of rookies and second year players. It's a blast to go to because for a mere $20 a day you can watch NBA talent with great seats and the games run all day long. Ben Gordon of the Bulls really stood out last year at the Revue with his play and I felt he would be a very solid NBA player. Great shooter with unbelievable quicks.

TNTguy: There is a great opportunity soon for you to attend a World Cup soccer match: Next summer (2006) in Germany!!! Qualifying rounds are not over yet and so no fixtures yet, but you probably have to get tickets as soon as they are for sale, as they will be sold out soon for the best games.

Also airfare from USA to Germany is relatively cheap.

Mostly football nut here(volunteer coaching for five years at the high school level), following the Browns and Wolverines and watching about a zillion games every week during the season.

I'm indifferent to Hockey, its actually pretty big in our town thou...

I can't stand Baseball and Golf... even thou the College World Series is in my town.

Basketball is my favorite sport to play, I don't watch it too much, mainly just March Madness and NBA playoffs (GO PISTONS!!!).

Football, now thats the ticket. I enjoy the NFL but I LIVE for College Football (can't ya tell by my Avatar ) I don't just follow the Huskers (although I bleed Husker Red), all of College Football is just more interesting to me than any other sport.

Women's Tennis - Better Competition, more interesting personalities, pretty damn close to the same level of play, and breasts... What's not to like?
Sometimes Televised Fishing- (trying to come up with a comment about how stupid and boring this can be, but wierdly addictive if you are a fisherman...)
Golf - on TV only - very wierd attraction - Hate the sport from a particapitory aspect- I will never pick up a club except for "Pootie Golf" where I use a 9 Iron to launch Dog Poo from in front of my mailbox out into the center of the road in front of my house. It is such a regular occurance that I'm thinking of putting a flag out in the middle of the road to aim for. No Idea what my handicap is.
But on TV, on the couch, there is nothing better to doze an afternoon away to than televised golf. The nice pictures, the quiet, soothing voices, chuckling at the Buick commercials, ect... Does anyone else out there find it amusing that one of Daley's (last/only)Corporate sponsers is Hooters? Drinking problem. Weight problem. Women problem. Sponsers dumping him problem. Give his agent an A+ for creativity, but an E- in problem solving...
College Lacrosse- This is a great televised sport. Even better in person. And even better if you have ever been knocked out cold, or knocked someone else out cold, while playing lacrosse!
Boxing - I know it is getting pretty Non-PC, but a good fight is great entertainment.

I have no likes/dislikes for any college football team, I've just always thought it was a funny joke.

disc golf is everywhere, started playing in college 5-6 years ago and have not been able to stop, i try to play courses everywhere i travel. in northern indiana there is even a private course, it is amazing how much the sport has grown in recent years.
then there is soccer, anyone watching the U-20 matches? incredible young talent.
after that, there is hockey-mainly NHL or college, being that they are the only games televised, actually got to see some good hockey this winter, went to a few games to watch the local team (indianpolis ice)
and finally college football, mainly big 10, purdue football .......but just my 2 cents.

For those who like soccer, I would strongly suggest you watch Confederation Cup going on now in Germany. National teams of Brasil, Germany, Greece, Argentina, Japan, Mexico, Australia, Tunisia play (basically all continents competition winners) and they all have their best line-ups!!! I watched yesterday Germany-Australia 4-3 and was a great match!! This tournament is kinda mini World Cup!!

In USA it is broadcasted by Univision, TElefutura, and Galavision (I get them all with Dish Network). I know it is all in Spanish, but it is worth it. I actually don't speak any Spanish at all myself...

Great game today at 3PM ET Brasil-Greece on telefutura (channel 830 Dish Eastern Feed)!!!

However, I found this Goal shout of Latin American commentators very annoying, it does hide all the other voices after the goal is scored, such as crows cheers etc. Coming from a European soccer background, Spanish speaking channels comments on soccer sound funny I would say.

ESPN commentating coverage is satisfying, but Fox Soccer Channel one not as much. On Summer 2004 I really enjoyed Euro 2004 on PPV from British commentators, they really know how to comment a game with passion (although understandably biased for their English team).

One thing I hate on US english comments though: the use of PK abbreviation for a penalty kick in spoken language, yak!!!

And Canadians everywhere have tripping hearts whenever they hear "le but! le but!"
