This is one great sub

http://www.audioholics.com/productreviews/loudspeakers/AxiomEP500reviewp1.php
Here are some quotes
The Design

The EP500 is unlike any other subwoofer we have encountered. The amplifier design execution is nothing short of brilliant.
This one is curious
The back panel of the EP500 is a fully armed arsenal of connectivity options including line level (unbalanced and balanced) inputs and outputs, speaker level inputs and even a USB port for future upgrade or connectivity options with Axiom electronics (coming soon)
Axiom electronics coming soon? Hmmmmm..... Great article

My last edit I promise

There are many great subwoofers (especially available online) at this highly contested price point that offer commendable performance and cosmetics, but we feel the EP500 is class leading in performance in this price category. Alas – “King of the Deep” – is an appropriate title for it. If you are serious about bass, you owe it to yourself to check this subwoofer out. With Axiom’s great customer service (one of the best we have seen in this business) and generous 30 day return policy, it’s a risk free, no-brainer decision in this humble reviewer’s opinion. In fact, if you aren’t happy with the performance of this sub, please send it my way, my reference system could always benefit from the addition of an EP500 or two.

The BEST SUB!! I can't wait to get one soon to complement my 60's 4 QS8 and vp150. I have a real weak 12" old old sub 250 watts. I have had my Axioms for almost a year and i am still amazed how fantastic they are. Cracked me up watching some movie or other, and my wife goes to check if it's raining and of course it's the QS8.We both cracked up. OK I'm done waxing rhapsodic

you guys are making me jealous, trying to decide on a second 350 or just get a 500 to go with my current 350. My new room in the basement is pushing 900 sq ft., however, the HT corner area is about 300 sq ft with 9' ceilings, but it is all open to the rest of the room.

You don't have to imagine. Just listen carefully in the evening... if you live in the Continental US (or parts of Mexico) you can probably hear them.

Stop it you guys, I was THIS close to getting the nod from my wife for twin EP-600's. Then I screwed up, she asked if there was a big break for ordering two at one time, and, without thinking, I said NO ...

The right answer ? The first one is $2250, the second at the same time, $1250. Grrrrrrrrrr...

I would dearly love an EP500 (and/or 600), but living in a small apartment in the city + superduper subwoofer = eviction.
However, the part of that review that I read lastnight that got me really excited was "Axiom electronics (coming soon)".
Someone leak some info already, will ya?! My receiver is working fine, but my upradeitis viral load is rising and before I begin treatment I want to know what's coming down the pike!

Cool, maybe it will be in place whenever I'm in the need for a sub upgrade...soon!

If this review was available when I bought my SVS I definitely would have tried it out first(EP500 or maybe the EP600), the EP500 and PB12+ 2 were approximately the same price. Too late for now. I wish there was someone in the Houston area with an EP500 or EP600 I could audition. Could always add an EP600 to level out the sound in all parts of the room.

When I was looking at my sub purchase, it was down to the SVS 39" Ultra and/or the EP500. Without hearing either and not many reviews out on the EP500 or 600 it was down to the wire. When Axiom came out with their "5 year warranty" I was sold instantly. Now top that with the design of these subs and the depth they are capable of, it was a win win purchase.

I ended up purchasing the EP600 (caught up in the bigger is better)and it is unbelievable. I usually have it running on less then half of it's power capability and it is goes deeper then anything I've ever heard.

You can't go wrong adding this sub to any HT system.

The agony lies in looking at such a flat curve, understanding that we're looking at some kind of near-ultimate here, and living in a community where a "Sub Wars" truce has successfully been in effect for a very very, very, long time.

Damnit dont tell me things like that, I thought I was satisified with my sub, now I am wondering what if...Although my sub has plenty of power, I have always wanted a little more...Maybe the addition of an EP600 or EP500 would put an end to that little niggle in my brain. One little detail of course, gotta scrounge up a few dollars to get one. Oh and the big screen TV that I have been wanting for a few months now(the Toshiba 63" DLP). I guess I will have to make due with current sub for awhile, at least until I get the TV. I do need to upgrade the old receiver too.

Damn all of a sudden I seem to be in a crisis, I need a whole new setup!!!

I think your sub already has a fair amount of power. I wouldn't be worrying about "sub envy" in your case...

I wouldn't even consider the 500. A matching 600 might be the only sub better than youy SVS.

I promised I wasn't gonna get in this debate. That being said I will put my DUAL 52" SVS ultra's with their monster powered Crown amp, against anything out there, anything. I think we just have to realize there are "several" great subs out there, and now Axiom is ONE of them, congrats for that - Axiom! This is coming from someone that owns FIVE pairs of em, 3 m-3, 1 m-60, 1 m-22 and a 150cc, (wow - how many drivers is that?) That also being said I keep pondering the 3.6 maggies for the main room. I can't forget their sound, but bringing the HT planer sound into all the other speakers is difficult to swallow.

No wonder the continent is still stable, despite Dennis's dual EP600s! It's counterbalanced by Jon's dual SVSes!

For 5 grand the SS is unmatched, but the comparison was his sub vs Axiom 500/600. I still think if he wants an Axiom sub, the 600 is the way to go. My point is that he has a sub many envy.

I agree, including me (the envy part) I like everything I am hearing about the Axiom subs, even though I have not heard them personally. I wasn't getting in a pee-pee match, I am just passionate about my subs, AND my Axiom speakers. Anyone looking at the 500/600 seems that they would be purchasing one helluva great sub. As I said concrats to Axiom for their leap forward into a very competitive sub marketplace. My biggest thing right now is "possibly" moving the m-60s for magneplanar 3.6s purchase. But they are huge, and would throw a monkey wrench in my present 7.1 HT set-up. in 2 channel (stereo) mode it sounds great. But the sound of the 3.6s is so alluring, I made the big mistake of auditioning them again. They are so seductive, but would run 5k, and put 2 big doors (in size) to boot with 2 big water heaters, how much can one women take, Then the problem of sonically matching rears, surrounds, center, It seems to daungting in all.

Bug, I am telling you they are magic, The best speakers I have ever heard........period. I also happen to love jazz, vocals, strings, less hard rock, however Steeley Dan has NEVER sounded better. They really accel in these areas. You don't really know what "imaging" can sound like til you here these planars. TWO (well three) major problems and they involve all numbers. That review was done 5 years ago. They were 3750.00 then. 4700.00 now+tax. You really don't get a deal on these. They are priced at what they are. I have tried. Used market does not yield much savings, then with shipping (damages??) really makes no sense. Next numbers 24 & 71, as in inches, yup a door, 2 feet by 6 feet. Now 2 more existing 52" cylinder subs, and Janis's next call is another number 1800divorce. It's going to take some sales skills, that I don't think I have, and I have not said that very often.

>>and put 2 big doors (in size) to boot with 2 big water heaters

Can't you hide the water heaters behind the doors and bask in the appreciation from your wife who doesn't have to look at the water heaters any more ?

This sounds like one of those problems that would take care of itself...

Nothing the lottery wouldn't take care of. Get or build a new house to match the speakers.
