Re: NEW 1400-8 amplifier. Could you please advise what the current draw of this amp is and would it be necessary to have a dedicated circuit. Also I am a little confused since the specs talk about power distribution up to seven channels yet there is reference to an additional channel and that of course relates to the name(1400-8). Your clarification of these issues would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Ron,

Thanks for your e-mail. The A1400-8 amplifier will never draw more than 15 amperes so there is no requirement to have a dedicated circuit. At full output, the amp reaches around 93% to 95% efficiency, one of the virtues of a refined digital design. (Standard Class A/B analog designs are typically from 50 to 60% efficiency; the rest is dissipated in heat.) There are indeed eight channels. We tend to market it as a 7-channel amplifier so the power output per channel is greater (which would be the case if you don't use the eighth channel). I admit that it's a bit confusing.

Kind regards,

Alan
