Hi,
I am a newbie. I am thinking of getting Epic 80 HT system but dont know much about good receivers. Specifically to drive those 4ohm M80s. I would use them for 50% music and 50% movies. Since I have zero idea about receivers, please be patient with my DUMB Qs:
1. Can I set the reciever on 4ohm and let all the speakers run on it....Center and surrounds, will they be OK...? or do receivers generally let you have different Ohm settings for different speakers...like 4Ohm for Main, 6 for center and 8 for rear....or is it my imagination running wild...
2. What would happen if I try to drive M80 with a 6ohm receiver ? I just bought a Onkyo Intergra DTR 5.4 which I will try to return but in worst case, can I still run the speakers with this receiver ?
3. I am willing to go upto $1000 for a decent AV receiver, so please shoot a good list if you have them handy ? But not too many....please......, information overload is probably as bad as no information
4. I kinda heard that EP 350 is not the best sub $650 could buy......any alternative suggestions ? If EP 350s are decent I might go ahead with it; atlest for uniform aesthetics.

Thanks a bunch,
Sandeep

3.
Pioneer elites, they have a auto calibration feature that calibrates the spkrs in ur HT setup.....
Yamaha 1400/2400 is a big fav in this forum
Onkyo SR801 is a good one too.

Am personally going to buy pioneer elite 53tx. My best buddy uses a 45tx version of it and is very happy.

My advise is to buy a 7.1 capable system , cause i feel in a year or so we *MAY* start seeing dvd's that have 7.1 sorround info in them. One of the best things i have learned from the forum memebers - BUY THE BEST U CAN AFFORD. From ur spkr choice, i can see u r walking the right path...

4.
Check this website for subwoofers, seems to have a cult following here. Personally am going to stick to ep125 as i live in an apt and i dont want a very powerful sub to shake the walls and have me thrown out . From the research i did, looks like ep125 is a decent sub.

Thnx
Raj

Hi Sandeep

The Integra will be a very nice receiver for your Epic 80 system. It's rated at 165 watts per channel into 4 ohms. Integra is a high end Onkyo product, and should make your Axioms sing!!

Sandeep, receivers don't really come in different ohm ratings, although mostly for legal reasons some don't recommend operating with 4 ohm speakers. Despite that, even many of those can work successfully with 4 ohm speakers without being set to 4 ohms(which would reduce the power capability)and can operate 6 ohm speakers with no problem. A very powerful receiver with automatic room and speaker equalization which fits your budget is the Yamaha 2400. It should be at the top of your list.
