ok. IF i go completely axiom, is it a mistake to use towers for your side speakers? my current set up has tower speakers for the sides, and bookshelves for the rears (x2) for 7.1 configuration....
also, what is the deal with the quadropole design of the qs8's??? is it better to have the mids facing up/down and the tweeters side to side? i mean, is that an advantage over a bookshelf being used for a rear/side speaker???

The big advantage of the quadrapole design (and to a lesser extent bipole/dipole design) is that (a) they give you the illusion of a much larger room, and (b) they are much less fussy with placement and will manage to give you decent surround imaging even if you have to put them in less-than-ideal locations.
If you have a larger room or are listening to predominantly music then tower or bookshelf speakers are just as good and may be preferable to some people.
I was really happy with M2 surrounds until I got the QS8s, and still slightly prefer them for music (although I really should have another listen and see if that is still true ).
A few people on the board with large rooms are running towers either as surrounds or as rears, including a few with 4 or 5 M80s.

John, this is completely off topic but it's early on a Monday morning and I'm really confused. Your new avatar...is that Rutger Hauer or Max Headroom?

Hmm. You know, I thought I was (pardon the pun) pretty tuned into what was airing back in that era. That one escaped my notice completely. Looks like fun stuff, though.

I highly recommend the DVD sets. Tried watching the show when it originally aired but the laugh track drove me away. The DVDs have the laugh track stripped off and the result is much better. IMO this is some of the best light television I have seen...
