Would two EP350 V3 sound better than one EP500 v2? I am asking because both options come up to about the same price. Would the sound be better balanced, i would place 1 EP350 on the front wall and the other on the rear wall.

2 is always better than one. However the EP500 has lower extension and DSP technology.

It really is a tossup, I have not seen any comparisions between the EP350v3 and the EP500v2...I would love it if someone (ahem jakeman) would take the time to compare the 2 subs. \:D

We are just waiting for you Robb. Framer2180(Greg) has the V3 and we are more than willing to do the comparisons. Pick a time and place.

I think the 2 EP350's will give you a better balanced sound as in less dead spots in the room, but the 2nd EP350 won't give you more or better bass in your prime seating location.

A single EP500 will let people in the next town know you're watching a movie. You wouldn't get the same sensation with 4 EP350's

My recommendation is to go with the single EP500 and use the sub crawl method for optimum placment. Trust me, you can't go wrong with 500 watts and DSP. DSP is great cuz you never have to worry about over driving your sub and damaging it, and that is very important.

Just make sure you have glued down all the china in the china cabnet before you put in U571.

Hutz, I have some views on the comparo though I must preface that while I have extensive experience with the EP subs I have yet to hear the 350v3. I'm currently cooling my heels at LaGuardia in NYC so I will respond later. In the meantime it would be good if the OP provided more detail about his listening preferences, size of room, etc. Suffice it to say that its no contest that the EP500 surpasses one 350v3 in all areas but a pair can be formidable depending on how you want to configure them.

It's obvious that you need to start bringing a few subwoofers on your trips so you can make better use of airport time *and* collect listening experience in a wider variety of room sizes.

Some of the larger terminals might be good for 4pi response measurements too. Much better than going up a tower in the middle of winter ;\)

I have very little experience with this kind of comparison, just going from theory, but IMO it's going to depend quite a bit on room and seating position. A single EP500 would probably be the way to go if your room is "good", but if your room is "difficult" (in any of a variety of ways) then you have options with two subs which you don't have with one. As an example, if you want good bass over a fairly large listening area then two subs (by virtue of being placed in different positions) can often help.

Can you tell us a bit about your room ?

I have the EP500 and find it to be a truly exceptional sub. Before I purchased it though I had purchased a 10" sub driver to build my own sub. I finally got around to completing the project. All the parts came from Parts Express. My room size is 20' x 13' by 7'8" with two semi-open areas giving me about 2200 cubic feet of space including the open areas. The Ep500 filled the sapce without any trouble at all. Since I already had the parts for the second sub I went ahead and built it and placed it behind my couch along the back wall. After some tweaking now the bass response is fuller and even less directional than before. Especially when seted on the couch. Even though you couldn't really tell where the EP500 was located by itself, you could determine that it was situated towards the front of the room. Now with the second sub the bass comes at you from all directions more evenly and sounds more even. Not to mention having the second sub behind the couch adds to the vibrations of loud explosions that you can feel. Since I have a 7.1 system and all the other sounds come from all the other directions in the room, having the bass do the same thing adds to the movie wathcing experience. Plus, this second sub, which can really put out some serious bass on it's own, only cost me a little over $400.00. So in my opinion having a second sub of relatively decent quality is worth having. ;\)
