Hi,
I finally get all gears i want (m60, vp100, m3, denon 3805 , and STF-2). Now it's time to set them up ...however, i'm having a hard time to figure out how to setup right.
Should i configure all 5 speakers (main, center, surround) first , then the sub by using SPL meter? Could someone please show me the steps? or do you know any links or sources so that I can read?

thanks very much.

AF, if there's some specific point that you're uncertain about later, you can ask, but what you should read very carefully now is your 3805's owners manual, in particular how to use the automatic setup and equalization feature(assume that you got the microphone). Mike(mwc)in particular has the 3805 and has been experimenting with it; he may have some helpful hints.

Forget the auto setup. Run the test tones from your 3805 (sys setup / speaker setup / channel level - manual tone)and level all your speakers, use your mains as the level to calibrate all others. The 3805 automatically sets your volume to 0db and provides a test tone for your sub. Place the sound level meter approximately where your head would be in the prime listening position.

Set the sub level at -6db on the receiver and use the gain on the sub amp to level it in to the same dB reading as all your other speakers.

You should really play with your sub location and make sure that is right. Any time you move the sub, even a few inches, recheck the level.

I have found the internal test tones on the 3805 to be quite accurate.

Some people prefer to run +2dB to + 6dB on the sub for movies (which would be -4dB to 0db on your receiver when calibrated at -6dB) but it should be kept flat for music.

Dave
