Hello,
I'm glad I found this great site, and will be buying my Axiom speakers soon. My question is can you over size the speakers for the room? I am setting up a HT only room size is about 12ft wide and 16ft deep. The cost is really not the main concern, but rather could I be over buying size. I like the Panasonic AE700 projector, need A/V receiver(Denon),speakers center VP150,front M60, rears QS8,sub EP500. Is this too much for my room? Also can the VP150 be mounted on a speaker stand?
Thanks...really enjoy the group

Quite possibly.... My room is 17x18x8 or thereabouts, and I've got M50s. They seem to fit pretty well in here. I could see the EP500 blowing you out of the water, but I could be wrong. The VP150 can be used with a number of center channel stands, and I think it has the ol' tripod mount type screw hole in the back. It's flat on the bottom.

I currently have a similar system in my upstairs living room until I complete my new downstairs HT room. Except for the sub, which I have the EP350, it works fine. Of course I'm not cranking it up as much as I will downstairs.
Current room size is about 15' x 20' with 9' ceilings.

I don't think what you're considering is "too much" for your room. Could you get by with less? Probably.

I have a room that is 11.5x18 with M60s, VP150, QS8 surrounds, and a HSU STF-2 subwoofer. I will probably be getting a larger sub in the near future. Not because I need to go louder, but because I want to go lower.

Yes you can "mount" the VP150 on a stand. Here's an older photo of my setup, and you can see my V150 on a stand. Actually, it's not "mounted," it's just sitting on the stand. Things don't look like this any more.

Ok, if Jack is going to show me his pad, I'll show him my current setup, only temporary though

I think the main issue with big speakers in a small room is making sure you have room to place them properly.

M60s are fairly deep and like to be 12-24" away from the back wall so figure the fronts of the speakers are going to be approximately 3 feet from the wall. As long as that doesn't pose a problem, they sound great in a smaller room although they LOOK pretty big from the side

If you are going to have the M60s on the short wall (ie playing "lengthwise") I would say "no problem at all". If you're looking at a projector setup I imagine that's your plan anyways.

If you're going to have the M60s on the long wall you're probably going to have to have the seating fairly close to the back wall -- just make sure that can be worked into your plans.

Hey Sirquack, when are you going to have photos of your construction of your HT? Anxious to see what you have been working on. Now that the holidays are over, I am hoping to spend more time working on mine. Although I DID get 2 1/2 days to dedicate to it this past week and got a lot done.... Still got mine crammed into the living room with the 27" TV, Christmas tree, my wife's Christmas village pieces, and a 75 gallon saltwater tank.. It is a bit tight..

Na! Calibration will take care of that.

I agree with bridgman, if you are able to comfortably fit them in then you are not "over buying". Especially if cost is not a concern. Besides, if in the future, you ever find yourself with a larger room, you'll be glad you opted for the M60s or even the 80s.
