I would like to have two receiver inputs active at the same time. For example TV and CD player. I don't need anything fancy just this capability. Are there any products which can do that?

My 6.1 Yamaha receiver (which is dated), does this - sort of. If I'm watching TV off the dish, and then switch to CD, the video from the dish stays up, but the audio from the CD is heard. Switch back to the satellite input, and the audio returns. Is this what you mean by mixing?

I want to have two active AUDIO channels. So I can listen to a CD while I watch TV...all through the same set of speakers. My computer can do this easily, however I am looking for a home theater receiver for the living room.

I've never heard of any home audio product that mixes two sources. I think you'll have to look towards an inexpensive mixer such as this..

You want to LISTEN to the TV and music at the same time? Or you want to monitor what's on TV while listening to music and switch to tv when something interesting comes on? Any decent programmable remote be programmed to switch the receiver between audio sources while keeping the video output the same(with the proper receiver of course).
PS: If you want to listen to BOTH while also watching TV I would suggest your money would be best spent on a Zen garden and that you spend lots of time there.

hehe. yes, i probably do need a Zen Garden, but it's not as crazy as it sounds...
I have a computer full of mp3s in the same cabinet as my receiver in the family room. I have a computer in the kitchen which can tell the other computer to play/stop/pause/next music. My receiver is always set to TV input, but the TV is not always on. I would like to press Play from the kitchen and have the music play in the house without walking into the family room to switch the receiver input.
Yes, this is somewhat lazy, but mixing two audio sources seems so easy it must be possible somehow...
