I'm going to purchase an EP500 in a few weeks and I will be keeping my existing Energy 10 sub to make it a dual sub configuration. My sub is currently in the optimal position, which is 1/3 up the back wall and behind my seating position, so that's where the EP500 will be going, but where should I put the second sub ? The opposite wall is where the TV and the main speakers are.. I do have room for the sub there, but would prefer not having it with at the front..

I would be interested in opinions, especially those with 2 subs already in their system.

Thank you !

Stephane

I think i would try a second sub crawl after you place the 500 in its spot and see where the second best place might be. I believe directly opposite might be the second best but upfront might work better you never know.

Thanks Jay, Sounds reasonable to me.. that's how I got my current sub in it's place. I just thought there might be some pre determined or "scientific" placement for the second sub based on the placement of the first sub..

Sometimes it's just easiest to put one sub on top of the other.

Stephane, to minimize the room mode related to length, the second sub should be on the front wall. The width arrangement should be about the same 1/3rd(assume that you meant lateral positioning rather than height when you said "up"?).

Yes I meant lateral..So, basically, facing the the current sub placement on the opposite wall ? that would place it between my right side Veritas 2.3 and my TV. I'm going to have to move my speakers further apart (wider) to accomodate that setup. Although it's only a 10" sub, it's a pretty big (sealed) box !
Not sure if that will have a negative impact on the soundstage, one thing I have found with these Veritas, they are extremely finicky about placement, in every direction ! for example, I've notice a difference in sound from just 1/2 inch of toe in / out. but what does not help me is that the right side speaker is next to a side wall (22 inches from the wall) and the left side speaker is 10 Feet away from the nearest side wall.. so early reflections from one side only..

In any case, I thank you for your input and will try it out as you recommend and see how it sounds..

Thanks John

Okay, then since 1/3rd did mean that distance in from a corner, the front sub should be that distance in from the diagonally opposite corner, i.e., they shouldn't be directly facing each other, but be positioned in a diagonal relationship.
