Well, a pair of Axiom M5s just arrived. Beautifully packed!
Our local group of audio nuts are all looking forward to spending some time with them.
We are going to do some comparisons with other book shelf speakers. First up will be Ali's B&W 705s. Should be interesting as the B&Ws cost twice as much!
We haven't come up with a music selection, for the comparisons, but I have a CD of the score to the movie 'The Accountant' which has some terrific bass percussion tracks.
If you have any recommendations, please let me know.
I'll keep you posted.

A word about the system I think we'll be using.
Jadis JPL preamp Conrad Johnson MV60SE amp (KT120 tubes) MMF 7.1 turntable Hana mc cartridge with shibata stylus Phonomena II+ phono stage Sony CA9ES CD player Schiit Bifrost multibit DAC
I have a pair of EP500s in the system, but don't know if we will use them for the comparison.
A friend is moving and has offered to sell his AR M100 monoblocks. They are sensational. Don't know if I will pull the trigger on them.
Should be fun!

That sounds like fun, 2x6!!
A couple of really well produced cd's I always enjoy are Norah Jones "Come Away With Me" and KD Lang's "Shadowland". Owen Bradley produced a masterpiece on the latter, imo. Holly Cole (Trio) will certainly give the range of any speaker a decent workout, as well.

First impressions. I swapped the M5HPs for a pair of Montana PBNs. Sat the Axioms atop a pair of EP500s. Set the EPs T 60 Hz. Listened to cable news during work day, and voices sound natural but a bit bass heavy. Set the EPs at 40 Hz. Better.
With evening, I listened to cable sourced music from cable. Trihop music was reproduced beautifully, lots of slam, bass strong and assured. I just let them play while I did my chores. No critical listening, I just wanted to start the break in process. (I know, I know)
First impression: the M5s don't sound like bookshelf speakers. They sound BIG. Very pleasant! I'll let them play in the background for a while, before I sit down with them and put them through their paces with music I'm familiar with - with and without subs.
I'll report back.

I realize this is an old thread but would love to know how the audition/comparison with the B&Ws went...
