I didn't want to start a new thread, but I couldn't really find another topic close to this in the search engine.
I have a motorolla dvr set top box in my system. It is hooked up to my HK247 through HDMI to my projector. My system goes a little something like this:
Motorolla >==component==> HK247 Xbox360 >==HDMI==> HK247 PS3 >==HDMI==> HK247
HK247 >==HDMI==> HD70(projector) HK247 >==component==> HD70
My problem is whenever I watch anything on cable, it's either a nice bright picture or it's a very dull dim picture. I have no problems with the xbox360 or the ps3's picture.
Whenever I turn on my system, I power on the projector, then the receiver and finally the set top box. My projector will always pick the HDMI input at 720p first and I have a very dull and dim picture. If I force my receiver to go to a different source (i.e. dvd) then I turn it back to the cable source, the projector will pick the Component input at 1080i and I have a nice bright picture.
Although I love the picture, this is just a pain in the but to do all the time, I just don't remember doing this all the time on my other faulty set-top boxes. Has anybody ever experienced this?

Your HK247 cannot send your component over HDMI?

Yeah, it does, but the picture is dull and very dim when it is component over hdmi. When it is component over component or hdmi over hdmi, its a nice picture. But when it's component over hdmi, it's a dull picture.
Another thing is I have an LG dvd player hooked up over component to my receiver and the picture is very good and bright. This has been perplexing to me.

I remember reading many times that some DVR boxes (in dimishing numbers) had black-level problems and it caused some sort of hand-shake. Setting the black level to darker was solving the issue for those having them. You have now reached the extent of my knowledge with DVR boxes!

Can you adjust the picture qualities(brightness, color etc) through the H/K? I can with my Denon.

Good idea. I think I can. I'll try that when I get home. It just baffles me because I don't remember it doing that on my other dvr's.

Update: Well I went into my OSD menu on the HK and went into the video menu. It says "Video bypass Video adjustments are not available in bypass mode".
Maybe my receiver is wonky. I don't know.

Not wonky, if you are simply using pass thru mode the receiver has no chance to make any adjustments.

I'm assuming it's better for it to be used on pass thru mode so the receiver doesn't have to do any processing?
