A funny event occurred over the weekend. This huge pheasant was attracted into our yard from some seed that was blowing out of a bird feeder. It was just 3 feet or so from my basement window when I was able to grab a camera. The funny part was that I then noticed Gimli, our mighty bird hunter of a cat, stalking him. He stopped about 15' away, stared at him for a while, then turned around and wanted in the house. The result, one demoralized hunter sulking in his basket of shame.
With great power comes Awesome irresponsibility.

Great story and pics, Murph. Beautiful bird! And a smart cat.

Even Murph's avatar knew better than to take on the bird. Bed of shame?

Awesome. Do you think Gimli just got to a certain point and went "wait a minute... that thing is huge!"

All the other cats, and dogs, are probably laughing at him.

Thanks Murph, that's a good one.
BTW, love your cat's name. We chose the same name for our golden retriever.

What's that white stuff on the ground, ha? None of that out here at the moment.
I luv the name. Gimli, Manitoba is where I underwent pilot training in 1967 & became a Flight Instructor there til 1971 when the base closed. It was white like that every winter & often hit -40C in those days. I do remember the square tires...

Great pics, Andrew. Yes, Gimli definitely appears to be "demoralized" and "sulking".
Occasionally I've noticed the neighbor's cat creeping stealthily toward a squirrel on it's stomach, never achieving success, of course. You wonder how domestic cats learned the proper hunting technique. All I can figure is that maybe they watched while African nature shows were demonstrating this on the TV.

Enjoy the music, not the equipment.

Well, the difficulty is that strings don't run away.
