I've got a really good web friend in Brazil who desperately wants me to try their national drink, the caipirinha. It's made with sugar, limes, and a Brazilian liquor called, cachaca. Have any of you tried one before? I guess the drink is slowly catching on in the US, but it still can be difficult finding cachaca. Fortunately, I was able to find it around here, but I haven't made the caipirinha yet. I'm waiting to try it the first time during a video chat with my friend so she can either watch me cringe or smile. I'm sure I'll smile. It looks pretty darned tasty...and strong too!

It's a right tasty drink. I make it a fair amount. It's pretty much a mojito without the mint, and with a slightly different liquor.

Fox - These are a staple in our house. They are uber-yummy. They are incredibly strong, but very very good. I have a friend who more or less gave up all drinking 10 years ago because he just hates the taste of alcohol (beer, wine, hard liquor, anything). However, amazingly, the guy guzzles caipirinhas like they are going out of style. I think you'll be pleased. Jason

Mike, with my sweet tooth, that looks like a tasty martini. I'll have to give it a shot.
Mary, ditto, if it's not too minty as you said.
Cool thread, back from the dead!

I still have some cachaca in the cabinet from when I use to make those a lot. Maybe it's time to break it out again.

Uh, Doc? It's limey. Not minty. No mint in that one.
