Just curious, what are your room dimensions ? It might be that you have a room response peak in the 40-50 Hz range which affects music more than movies... so you have to turn it down to avoid getting overwhelming bass on music...

Just a thought. Maybe one more placement tweak (or EQ) might make the difference.
