Spin training was dropped years ago but stall training is still considered a basic maneuver and is required to be demonstrated prior to receiving an FAA licence. (US)
The FAA 'Recreational' license came about way after I got into flying and I'm not that familiar with the regulations but I'm not too certain that passengers can be flown with a person holding this license?
Early on I had inhibitions about getting the airplane landed, scared me to death ... now I put them on narrow roads and strips with just a foot or two separating the main gear and a canal. It just takes time and experience.
