When I had inquired about a surge protector for my EP-500, I received the following reply from Brent at Axiom:

Check out Belkin, APC or Tripplite surge protectors, all are superb units. Look to a joule count of 700 or more.

You would want to have at least 700 joules of surge protection if you choose to use one. On inquiring about this, I found out that surprisingly few people are actually using surge protectors for their subs.
