Benson, if you want to watch dvd movies that are encoded with dd/dts 5.1 you'll need to hook up your coaxial cable from your dvd player to your receiver. That way you'll get surround sound thru your speakers.

The multichannel hookups are for dvd-audio/sacd discs. If you are planning on using this then you'll need 6 regular rca cables that interconnect from the dvd player to the multichannel inputs on the back of your receiver.
