John, when you're mentioning the +1db or +8dB on some of the speakers, I assume that you mean the overall sound level calibration rather than boosts at certain frequencies resulting from room equalization. If so, those settings should be left at the auto-calibration levels, so that the sound levels at the listening position are balanced.

If you were referring instead to boosts to equalize certain frequencies, you have to judge the results. In assisting a colleague in setting up a new 2400 a couple of years ago, our judgment was that the equalization(using the low frequency emphasis which was an option on that unit)was helpful. Others have reported different results.
