Rob's advice is good about front projection, but the great thing about rear-projection DLP sets is you can get a stunning picture in a normally lighted room.

Front projection requires a totally dark room for impressive picture quality, so consider whether it would mesh with your life and activities. It didn't with mine, which is why I got a rear-projection DLP (a Samsung).

The Samsungs can be adjusted to deliver an excellent picture and I've been generally pleased with mine (it's almost three years old). The new Mitsubishi or Toshiba DLP sets have, I think, a slight edge on the Samsungs but I've mostly seen the 1080p models, which are more expensive. This does not mean that a 720p DLP set can't deliver a really beautiful picture. It can.
