Craig, I do agree that Mits is the leader in ductless split Heat Pumps. Amazing product, but the issue has always been the huge capital cost. They are a mint and a half, (and the CityMulti was really designed for commercial applications)

Wouldn't it make more sense to add a regular 19SEER/9.5HSPF heat pump to his existing propane furnace and do the whole house? He'd lose about 10% efficiency from the ductwork, bringing him down to the 16/8.5 rating of the ductless Mits. (and about half the investment)

As a side note, up here it is the exact opposite. Heating with natural gas is about half the cost of heating with electricity. Figure about $1200/yr to heat 2500sqft plus 1000sqr bsmt. (3500 total)
