Rage - if you go with the Denon 3808, be sure to call 6ave electronics and ask them for their lowest price on the 3808. They offer it over the phone for around $1100, but they cannot advertise that price on the website as (I assume) Denon doesn't want that price advertised. If they happen to ask (though they never have when I've called), you can tell them you saw the deal on avsforums as it is often discussed and advertised there as well.

6ave is an authorized Denon reseller and many of the members of this forum have purchased from them with no problems.

I also agree with the other suggestions to start with a 5.1 system and work your way up from there. You might decide you have no need for the ".2" or the additional two surrounds once you hear what the 5.1 system sounds like.
