Thanks for the suggestion. I thought of that also but I can't see my dad getting a PS3 (even though it's multifunctional) because he just bought a wii. I don't think he will be able to get his head around the fact that it's not just a video game machine and that it does very well with Blu-ray etc. I will mention it to him tomorrow and see what he thinks.
I did just come across a refurbished Samsung BD-P1500 for $179 Canadian and it comes with a 90 day warranty. Seems like a decent deal to me.
