I have found in every setup I have had that 2 subs stacked in the same corner works best, but you should definitely experiment.

As for the rear surround all you need to do is adjust the distance on the receiver or preamp to what the distance of the rear speaker to the listening position is, and then using the test tones on VE, DVE, or Avia adjust the output level (75db) to match the rest of your speakers.
