I mostly remember how confusing that day/week was. Everyone was just waiting to hear the worst... I remember hearing the next day that the Bay Bridge (a major, major, major artery in the SF area) had collapsed. I just started packing up to go home a different route, which even in the best of conditions would have taken several hours. Minutes later, we figured out that the person who was saying that had misheard a radio report that said that a panel on the bridge had fallen, killing a worker.
