A friend of mine also drives a Jetta, I think it's an 02'. He's had the window problem, but also his clutch fell once pretty much randomly, while he was about three hours from home. I've seen this guy drive stick too, he's good, doesn't ride the clutch. I'd let him cruise around in my Subaru any day. He's got the diesel version, and while it does get impressive gas milage, I can speak for him and say he'd never buy one again. It may just be a Jetta problem though, so I don't know that I'd project these issues over all VWs.
