I think he wants to use the ipod and xm ability of his sony receiver on the m3's which are going to be in another room.

If your sony has a second zone in which you can assign to the m3's and run speaker wire into the m3 room then you could go that route. The sherwood receiver would not get used at all in this scenario.

Is the sherwood a receiver or an amp?
