Higher up--a couple of feet above ear level or higher--is always better. The height of the Axiom QS stands is a compromise between reasonable performance and a stand that would be top-heavy and unstable because it's too high.

Look at where the surrounds on each side wall are located the next time you are in a Dolby Digital cinema. They are up there, well above your ear level. That's where Dolby Labs wants you to locate surrounds.
