I suppose that it comes down to real world test session with a couple of ladders and/or some extra hands, as has been recommended in the past. Alan's advice, iirc.
Thought that it was worth asking the question anyway. I know of the Dolby diagrams with the angles for 5.1 placement. I don't think that I'd ever do 7.1 in that room.
Finally got a Bluray player for Christmas, but was horrified to hear how badly my old Paradigm sub performs with the new codecs. Had to throttle down the output level to stop the distortion.
But at the moment I can afford surrounds, not a good sub.
