There are two things the auto calibration does. One is to make sure all the speakers play at the same level. The second is to make -0 dB on the volume control be "reference". While changing all the trims the same amount will not have an effect on the first, it will change the second.

If you're not worried about what -0 dB actually means, then you can play with all the trim controls equally without throwing off the speaker-to-speaker calibration. But as Ken said, you don't want to push them too far positive.
