I just read in an article that one reason Microsoft wanted Skype is because of advertising revenue, and apparently there is an awful lot of it. Microsoft makes 3 billion dollars a year from advertisers, and their looking to gain more through Skype.

It doesn't justify $8.5 billion, but it had to jack the price up some.
