I agree that "liking" something is not necessarily the same as determining its "quality". I'm going to disagree that determination of artistic goodness is an objective pursuit, though.
Hear, hear. It's an impossible task, especially with a term as broad as "best." Too many variables, too much of it open to interpretation. In the end, I think the emotional resonance is the most important aspect of any art, and that's where it really does come down to choosing favorites, regardless of technical merits. Not that I know anything. There's probably art out there that's specifically designed to have zero emotional impact. Michael Bay?
