The true side to consider is how good a sound quality you can stand? Like, myself inside the car cannot tell the difference between an MP3 recorded at 128 and one at 320. The speakers inside the car are not that good and to be honest, I just want something that is background distraction noise to the drive, as I am paying more attention to the road and what I am doing.

At 128kb/s you can get about 15 hours of music per gig. So even getting one of those $50 ipod touch, you would have around 60 hours of music. I know like most of us, we tend to desire the best, but reality is that we could put up with much lower and not even notice it.

I went to Walmart and got my wife an ipod mini so she has something to listen to on the train into work. that was $145
