RP1 : First Impressions => it has some serious internals!
- Works just like a AA
- No issues finding the RP1 on my network (wired), from which I then selected a WIFI SSID (entered a password), rebooted and it was fine.
- Now ships with a slightly larger, newer and white
Edimax USB WiFi dongle
Had a look inside (to check it was set to 230v, which it was) and was interested to see the quality of the components including an 18V 1amp Toroidal PS feeding a daughter board with 4PCS Japan Nichicon 4700uF/35V GOLD MUSE FW Audio Electrolytic Capacitor prior to the Pi and DAC. Couple of things I'm not so keen on:
- The top of the case is bolted down with (lots of) raised nuts that may or may not cause stacking issues. It is also easy to strip the thread by over tightening
- The Pi/DAC is only held to the front fascia by the Volume Control Nut. Simple things like plugging in an Ethernet Cable (or even pressing the power switch) causes the whole module to wobble. The boards are drilled to take standoff that would make it much more solid but these are not used.
- Having the Ethernet and Wifi (etc) at the front of the unit is a departure from other AV Device Layouts.
If anyone has any Q - I can have a better test on the Weekend.
