Odd, thought the HK630 was 7.1 out of the box.
They are 7.1 in terms of amplification, but my recollection was that the earlier units didn't support whatever decoding ended up being the standard for 7.1 on most disks. Looks like I was thinking about Dolby Pro Logic IIx, which I suppose is more of a stopgap these days since AFAIK it expands 5.1 to 7.1 rather than supporting "true" 7.1:

If I want to support any of the more recent audio formats I'll need a player that can decode them plus 7 channel RCA from the player to the receiver. Something like that anyways. Maybe upgrade the player first, making sure I get one that can support Atmos properly, and go from there.
