I have 2 x AA and a bunch of other networked speakers. With the current SW:
- No to L/R pairing
- Yes to Whole House Audio (using Airplay as the transport).

I tend to "push" audio to the speakers rather than use the apps for the various speakers as they all appear on my network. Using a SW controller like https://rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/ you can even mix and match Airplay (including the AAs) / Chromecast / Sonos / Bluetooth, even PC's running virtual speaker software for synced playback.
