I lost interest in the whole .mxd/.mxf import thing because it required loading the entire file. You end up with everything in the file. I never really learned how to do the import thing, so I can't help with this specific question. Read on.

I wanted a bit more precision. Here's the trick - open the .mxd or .mxf (can't remember which) with Universal Browser (UB).

UB, which also works with .ccf files, allows you to drag & drop individual commands. Very surgical. I prefer getting granular with the set up because completing that correctly gives you a good solid base. Once the main "stuff" is set, then tweaking is easy.
