I'm considering buying an Hsu VTF-2, and I was just curious if there is anyone from Canada (or Ontario for more accuracy) that has bought one from the factory, and what kind of shipping charges and border taxes/duties they were hit with.
I'm looking for a "real" price to help compare to subwoofers at local shops.

There are no duty charges on loudspeakers from the U.S.
Taxes will include GST as usual, and other charges may include a brokerage handling fee (usually b/w $20 and $60 depending on the carrier) along with shipping costs (depending on the retailer).

I have personally found that if the U.S. price is around 80% of the Canadian price that after these charges, it almost works out to the same price locally. Many U.S. purchases do not equate to greater savings (eBay type items may vary more than retail outlets).
Being so close to Ottawa and Toronto, you may find local shops to be worthwhile. There are a few online dealers, a couple not too far from yourself, that would probly consider shipping items to you directly.
The shops include:
Marc's Audioshop in Ottawa
OZ Enterprises (outside Ottawa)
Audio Express (Saskatchewan)

I am not sure if these shops would carry the Hsu however.

Just as a further note regarding the couriers "Brokerage Fee" - USPS has no brokerage fee. And "Priority Post - Canada" is usually cheaper than the courier's, but can take 2-3 days longer.
I buy a lot of stuff from eBay.com and have gotten burned by the couriers in the past.

If you can purchase the sub your looking for from Marc at the AudioShop - Just do it. He is a great guy to deal with and firmly stands behind anything he sells!

I would buy anything from Marc at the Audioshop anyday.
